Much of the historic district of downtown Gainesville dates back to the 1880s.  The most iconic building in downtown is the Hippodrome state theater built in 1911.  Downtown Gainesville is the heart of culture and nightlife in this thriving college town.  Weekly farmers markets and the Spring and Fall arts festivals attract people from around the state while the shops, dining and cultural performances attract locals on a nightly basis.  There are numerous historic homes for sale in the area.  The “Duckpond” neighborhood best exemplifies the turn of the century architecture of this historic area.
